Bug#455854: evince: bad text selection behaviour - characters clipped and text overwritten

I'm reading [1] and noticing the text selection thing seems to clip
characters and overwrite them in some cases.

You can get the clip behaviour by selecting from the line below and just
after a lowercase y/g/j, then extending that selection from there past
the y/g/j on the line above, which gives stuff like these attachments:

You can get the overwrite behaviour by beginning a selection, moving the
mouse down a line, moving it to the left a bit, then moving it back up
to the original line, which gives this attachment:
