Hi,

From what I can tell, gnome-screensaver is already built with support
for xscreensaver hacks:

        DEB_CONFIGURE_EXTRA_FLAGS := --with-gdm-config=/etc/gdm/gdm.conf
        \
         --with-xscreensaverdir=/usr/share/xscreensaver/config \
         --with-xscreensaverhackdir=/usr/lib/xscreensaver \
         --with-gdm-config=/etc/gdm/gdm.conf

The rss-glx package already suggests gnome-screensaver and
provides .desktop files for all the hacks. (But they need to be moved
for 2.16, see bug 390659).

I guess this only leaves xscreensaver, if you don't suggest otherwise, I
will file bugs with xscreensaver and see if it's possible to do the same
changes Ubuntu have done.
