Is it using 100% cpu during this time?

strace is rarely useful to debug such issues. Instead, please install
nautilus-dbg and libgnomevfs2-0-dbg, and run "gdb /usr/bin/nautilus".
Then, type "attach pid_of_locked_process" and "thread apply all bt".
