Hi,

You can disable the screensaver entirely by deselecting "Activate
screensaver when computer is idle" in the Preferences. Does this not
work for you?

Interesting, is this behaviour reproducible? If so, can you first kill
gnome-screensaver and then run "gnome-screensaver --no-daemon --debug"
and see if anything interesting show up when the screensaver is
activated prematurely?
