"The jpeg standard provides a way to add a comment. You can use the
utility jhead or gimp 2.0 to manage it. Could be nice if eog manage it 
and/or show it among the exif data and on the fullscreen of the images."

This is a very old Debian bug, but it still seems to be valid. At least the
comments I set with jhead does not seem to be visible in eog.
