Bug#432736: libgnome2-0: gnome_sound_sample_load does not work

Package: libgnome2-0
Version: 2.18.0-4
Severity: important
Gossip does not play any sounds on my laptop. I wrote a small test
program to debug this (attached).
The problem seems to be in the gnome_sound_sample_load function.
According to strace, the test program does not even attempt to load the
specified sound file. In fact, even if I specify a sound file that does
not exist, the function still returns a value other than its error
return code of -1.
