If you X server dies abruptly, it's either a problem in your X server
or in your X driver (or in your hardware!). gdm is only doing it's job
of restarting a new X server when it notices X died. The X-based apps
which lose their X server do the only thing they can do: die.

What's your Xorg driver? Please attach your Xorg.log after a crash
(it's probably renamed if gdm starts a new display after a crash).
