Looking at the code, I think this is probably caused by your launching
gnome-typing-monitor as part of your session. However, since its
integration in gnome-control-center, it is now launched automatically if
needed, and without complaining about the notification area. So I'd say
you just have to remove it from your session and it should be fine.
