Bug#289118: Same problem in 2.18.0

I am running 2.18.0 and I have the same problem: no display in the dock,
no display when I open "details," and if I hover over the dock I get
"updating."

The preferences, as brought up by the applet, appear to be correct.

Please let me know if you need additional information.
