Hi,

Is this with the visualiser plugin enabled? If so, does it still happen
if you disable it?

You could try getting a backtrace of the hang by installing
rhythmbox-dbg (and the -dbg packages it recommends) and following the
instructions for multi-threaded apps here,
http://wiki.debian.org/?HowToGetABacktrace

Be sure to set "set logging on" before running, as it saves all cutting
and pasting.
