Thus the versions must be the same.

Have you tried to delete a single symbolic link from the Trash, or to
EMPTY the whole Trash? I can indeed empty the Trash, but cannot delete a
broken symbolic link alone.

I tested this with an empty home folder (without any previous GNOME
preferences), and the same problem happens.
