Bug#453328: gnome-session: Change locale hangs login

How to reproduce the bug:

using dpkg --reconfigure locale 
I added some new locales, en-ie-utf8 and
en-au-utf8
Using the login manager, I changed the language to the Irish locale.
I was asked if I wanted to make the change permanent or one one session only.
Choosing either causes the login to hang on a blank screen. I had to go to console and restart gdm.
The result for the Australian locale was the same.

Expected behaviour:
The login should apply the locale change and then continue starting the gnome session.
