Do you know which package talks to GDM under KDE? There was a change
in gdm 2.20: the pathname of the socket used to talk to gdm moved from
/tmp to /var/run; all GNOME applications support both pathnames in
2.20, but gdm 2.20 makes the socket pathname change effective.
I would like to reassign this bug to the proper KDE application which
uses the old pathname so that it is updated to try the new one first,
and then fallback to /tmp.
