Oops, my bad. I think I explained the problem wrong.
1) Although the tabs do appear loaded correctly, epiphany hangs for
long periods, possibly infinitely. During this time, the pages appear
"solid black"; the windows are not redrawn.
2) After (during?) the recovery, the URLs do not get filled in, and in
.gnome2/epiphany/session_crashed.xml, all the previously-open tabs are
now replaced with:
<embed url="about:blank" title="Blank page"/>
Instead of their correct contents, which is usually like:
<embed
url="http://www.retromags.com/wiki/index.php?title=Nintendo_Power"
title="Nintendo Power - Retromags"/>
3) If you then realize, "Oh, wait, this isn't the browser I was
looking for", and kill the session, your session is gone forever :(.
epiphany-gecko handles SIGINT quite gracefully, and I think
epiphany-webkit probably would except that session_crashed.xml is gone
at this point.
It occurs to me that upstream is probably aware of this bug. The
webkit backend is still considered very experimental, and major
features like sessions probably aren't expected to work right.
Hopefully people won't accidentally install epiphany-webkit, but
that's bug 444244, which has been filed. So feel free to close this
bug, and I'm sorry for wasting your time.
Thanks for your work!
Ethan
