Bug#474358: gdm won't start due to strange interaction with lsb-base functions

gdm won't start through /etc/init.d/gdm due to a strange interaction with lsb-base_3.1-24 functions,
specifically log_daemon_msg from /lib/lsb/init-functions. This function does work, however, with other 
init scripts (e.g. kdm, mysql etc.), therefore I'm not sure if this issue is exclusive of gdm or if 
it belongs to package lsb-base.

Workaround (temporary?):
Replace in /etc/init.d/gdm the lines 
	log_daemon_msg "first string" "gdm"
with 
	log_daemon_msg "first string" ; log_progress_msg "gdm"
