Sorry, I can't remember which file I played, but I tried some new ones.

/usr/share/apps/k3b/extra/k3bphotosvcd.mpg
:nothing happens.

/usr/share/apps/kphotoalbum/demo/movie.avi
: (nearly) no visible effect (including progress bar) but hearable sounds.
