Hi,

some googling gave me these bugs reports in other distros:

They talk about a different key (Up), but I assume it has the same
cause.

One fix seems to be a patch by Fedora
http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewvc/devel/xorg-x11-server/xserver-1.5.0-force-SwitchCoreKeyboard-for-evdev.patch?revision=1.1

So it might not be gnome related after all. I’m re-assigning to
xserver-xorg.

Note that this patch seems to be pending in the Debian packages:
