When running
  apt-get source xchat-gnome
  grep -B 13 'You are being MSG flooded' xchat-common-0.18/src/common/*

It should probably say msg_counter on the fourth line of output of the latter
command.
The comment below that is also referring to ctcp. And maybe cut and paste should
be exercised with care.
