I mainly see this when I am composing a message, like this one (I've
attached a screenshot showing the problem).  I use mutt inside a
gnome-terminal window, and I use emacs in text-only mode as my message
composer.  See the previous line for a particularly bad example!

When I redraw the screen in emacs (^L), the phantom cursor blocks go away.
