Hi again,

It looks like I was mistaken, this should actually work, but only with
the crossfade backend. However, this change has not yet made it to a
version in Debian.

So in short, this will work if you enable the crossfade backend and use
version 0.11.4 (or later) when it has been uploaded to the Debian
archives.

Meanwhile, I will mark this bug as forwarded and track upstream bug
427244 which hopefully will make this work in the non-crossfade backend
too.
