I've been experiencing quite a few oddities with ekiga on one system.  
It will frequently hang using 100% of the CPU until killed.  I've tried 
backporting the newer version of ekiga from sid, but that resulted in no 
change.  I've completely removed ekiga, and reinstalled the version from 
etch.  I've replaced the sound card in the system since one of the 
previous ways that I could get it to hang was simply attempting to 
preview a sound through it.

Now, I've found a reproducible hang if I place a call and quickly 
request a disconnect of the established call.  I attempted to get a gdb 
backtrace of the process but it appeared largely useless (only about 3 
lines with no information).  If you know of a way to get more useful 
information from gdb I'd be happy to recreate the problem.  In the 
meantime I captured an strace of the application from startup through 
the hang.  I left the application hung for several minutes.  During that 
time you can see the same calls repeated over and over again:
