Yes, it works fine in evince for me too, and it is encrypted using
128-bit RC4.

OK, then I know that OpenOffice generated encrypted pdf's work with
evince, and that the problem is isolated to some
documents/generators. However, acrobat destiller 6.0.1 is quite
common...
