gdm hangs my computer on shutdown and logout of gnome.  On logout, all of gnome is removed from the screen 
except for the background and the computer hangs.  cntl-alt f1, f2,... doesn't work to go to another session either.
I have to hard shutdown to get out.  On shutdown, I get the background only screen but after a few minutes,
the computer will eventually shutdown.  Sometimes when I start my computer back up my gnome panels are blank gray bars.
Shutting down and restarting a few times usually brings the gnome panels back.
Sometimes I have to log into gnome-failsafe and the panels come back.
