Bug#470992: gnome-panel: Notification area shows weird vertical 'streaks'

Starting up Gnome the notification area is placed a tiny bit more far away from the rest of my applets, the space is clear.
When I now move the notification applet 'into' the other applets, I can see some vertical streaks, like there are icons, reduced to 1px width.
Moving back the space is clear again.
I have a screenshot of that, but not knowing if reportbug will let me add attachments I give you a link:

I have played around with the session configuration, thinking it could be remains of some broken notify icons but nothing helped.
