A similar patch was submitted upstream but as documented in
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487012#c6, it breaks
adding files to an existing archive (see comment #7 for the reason).
So I reverted it in version 2.22.0-3.
In the meantime, tar upstream installed a fix to avoid this issue,
reverting to tar 1.18's behavior:

Bdale, do you think you could apply this to Debian's tar package?
