I'm also seeing this bug. Font errors make reading plain text mail in Thunderbird visually unpleasant, and text in xchat is clipped in a manner which makes the client unusable.

Possibly related is a recent problem where iceweasel crashes very frequently. Starting it with "MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1 iceweasel" prevents this from happening.
