Bug#482639: gnome-session-properties: can not specify startup programs order

Package: gnome-session
Version: 2.22.0-2
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/gnome-session-properties
In former gnome versions it was possible to specify an integer based
priority value for each startup program in gnome-session-properties.
During gnome startup, all programs are then become executed in the order
given by these values.
This was essential for applications which have to be loaded before
others. Like compiz - it's suggest to add compiz to the gnome session
with "compiz --replace" which then will replace the metacity windows
manager. But without the order specified some applications may have been
already started and will end up somewhere on desktop overlaying each
others (which does not happen normally because the window manager is
taking care of this).
This was how gnome-session-properties looked previously:

I guess this is the right gnome bug report.

Currently it's only possible to specify the order in the "Current
Session" tab in gnome-session-properties. But this only applies for
session-managed programs. "Startup Programs" takes care of programs
which have to start before the session comes up (which I guess means
loading all the applets and that stuff).
Also gnome-help (topic "Session Preferences") seems to differ from what
is possible in the current lenny-gnome version. Table 8-22 says:
> To add a startup application, click on the Add button. The Add Startup
> Program dialog is displayed. Enter the command to start the
> application
> in the Startup Command field.
> If you specify more than one startup application, use the Priority
> spin
> box to specify the startup order of the each application. The startup
> order is the order in which you want the startup applications to
> start.
But it isn't there.
Cheers,
Andreas
