Try setting NSPR_LOG_FILE to some file and NSPR_LOG_MODULES to "all:5".
Also, when it freezes, try to grab a backtrace.
Finally, if you are using xulrunner 1.9.0.3-1, please also try setting
MOZILLA_DISABLE_PLUGINS to something.
