Bug#501199: gnome-panel - Fails to suspend machine

Package: gnome-panel
Version: 2.20.3-5
Severity: important
gnome-panel fails to suspend the machine. The kernel however does this
fine. So this is a problem somewhere between the suspend request in the
GUI and the actual kernel call. Sometimes there pops up an error message
which is completely unusable.
I can suspend the machine without problems using either
- "echo mem > /sys/power/state", which is the direct kernel interface
and
- using pm-suspend from pm-utils.
