G'day Josselin,

Thanks for the response.

I've attached the /var/log/gdm/:20.log.1 file which relates to the login
yesterday which disappeared. Looking at the Xorg.20.log.old file,
except for some informational and warning messages (which appear
innocuous) the error message at the end appears the same. If you want
this file, let me know and I'll email it to you.

It would no longer be able to be accessed - when I switched to it the
screen would be either all garbled or would just have the cursor
flashing in the top left corner (and clear otherwise). Excluding
changing the inittab to allow a mgetty process for VT7 (which I didn't
think of until now) X would no longer switch to that VT.

I would be a little surprised if it was the graphics driver. I've been
running the NVIDIA drivers for quite some time, and although I have had
some issues with crashing and otherwise, it was stable for quite some
time. I've only just started to change this machine over to Lenny since
the freeze, and it is mostly up to date.

Regards,

Russell.
