Hi, I tried installing Lenny from the d-i rc2 multiarch DVD on a networkless 
virtual machine (with just the standard system selected in tasksel), 
/etc/debian_version is present and /etc/apt/sources.list cointains the 
security.debian.org lines, so I'd say it's not d-i fault, unless it's just 
some particular choice during the installation that triggers the bug...
