Bug#514809: gconf settings are not included in sabayon profiles

Package: sabayon
Version: 2.22.0-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

On both a new Lenny install and on an upgrade from Etch,
Sabayon fails to save any changes to gconf settings:
e.g., I created a new Sabayon profile and tried
disabling "Lock screen when screensaver is active", and
using the GConf editor to set the gconf key "apps/gksu/sudo_mode";
Sabayon's "Show Changes" window showed both changes, but
selecting "Save" from the "Profile" menu didn't work - there is
no gconf stuff in the saved profile and quitting and restarting
Sabayon, and editing the sabed profile, confirms that the changes were
not saved.

Sabayon does save changes to (e.g.) the Iceweasel profile, so it's not
completely borked, but from my perspective managing gconf settings
is its core function, hence the severityd. Feel free to downgrade if you
disagree, but this bug makes it essentially useless to me when I'm
wearing my "desktop admin" hat.

Two apparently unrelated issues, reported just in case:
 - on each Sabayon run GNOME reports that the Gnome Settings daemon
   repeatedly failed to start, but this seems to happen for any XNest
   session;
 - Sabayon reports a "Recoverable error" on exiting, producing
   the log shown below:
     ===== BEGIN MILESTONES (/usr/bin/sabayon) =====

     This configuration for the debug log can be re-created
     by putting the following in /root/sabayon-debug-log.conf
     (use ';' to separate domain names):

     [debug log]
     max lines = 1000

I've attached a copy of a profile created using Sabayon, showing the
absence of any gconf-related stuff.

John Pearson
