That’s unfortunately expected. I don’t remember all the gory details,
but writing the files to a removable vfat mount is not synchronous
anymore (that’s a kernel decision, and ISTR they had a good reason to do
so). This is why you must unmount the volume (e.g. by right-clicking on
it and selecting “Unmount the volume”) before physically removing it.
