Bug#537415: gnome-applets: mixer_applet2 has horizontal slider

Package: gnome-applets
Version: 2.26.1-1
Severity: normal
some time in the last few upgrades (i don't know when exactly), the
volume control applet's drop-down slider changed from vertical (which is
useful and makes sense) to horizontal (which is essentially useless, and
makes no sense at all).
not only is it ugly and impractical to use (previous normal usage was
to single-click on the volume control icon, then slide the volume up or
down), the horizontal slider is actually impossible to use because it
extends beyond the right edge of the screen.
e.g. i have the volume applet as the third icon from the right on my top
panel. clicking on it results in a slider that extends beyond the right
side of the screen. i can't increase the volume beyond about half way.
I can't even see the "+" icon on the right side (which i assume is there
to match the "-" icon on the left side)
please fix by reverting to previous sane behaviour, or at least make
horiz/vert. slider a user-configurable option.
