Bug#518390: "root terminal" in main gnome menu is broken.

If this is really intended behaviour, then it hasn't been thought
through. For a start, the "root terminal" in the main gnome menu is
broken as a consequence. The command there is

gksu -D Terminal -- env -u ORBIT_SOCKETDIR /usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator

The whole thing seems very nannie windozie to me: I am banned from
editing, say /etc/apt/sources.list, from any sort of gnome/xorg
application, but I can use emacs provided I don't try to run it from a
spawned xterm or the like.

What is the newbie who hasn't yet learnt emacs or vi* or the like meant
to do?

Sorry to grumble: seems to be an upstream problem...
