Bug#529249: gnome-session: Blocks two minutes when starting session with awesome

Package: gnome-session
Version: 2.22.3-3
Severity: normal

I have set:
rhertzog at rivendell:~$ cat .gnomerc
export WINDOW_MANAGER=awesome

Whenever I start a Gnome session, it starts the first few applications
and then stays stalled for 2 minutes and then starts the remaining
applications. The panel and nautilus are immediately started as is the
window manager, but then the rest of the applications have to wait some
sort of timeout before being started.

stracing gnome-session/x-session-manager during the block gives:
8270 09:59:18 read(18, <unfinished ...>
8092 09:59:18 restart_syscall(<... resuming interrupted call ...>) = 0
8092 09:59:57 gettimeofday({1242633597, 865159}, NULL) = 0
8092 09:59:57 pipe([26, 27]) = 0
8092 09:59:57 clone(child_stack=0, flags=CLONE_CHILD_CLEARTID|CLONE_CHILD_SETTID|SIGCHLD, child_tidptr=0xf6d68798) = 8712
8092 09:59:57 close(27) = 0
(the rest goes on normally)

8270/8092 are 2 threads of gnome-session.

I have the same behaviour with a completely new session (i.e. after having
moved .gnome2/session out of the way).

If the problem is somehow related to awesome not being session-aware, then
feel free to reassign to awesome.

Cheers,
 Raphael H.
