Bug#555844: libgtk2.0-0: Many buttons broken in Eclipse

After upgrading to libgtk2.0-0 2.18.3-1, many buttons in eclipse stop working with mouse clicks.
The buttons work if you use "enter" at the appropriate time or use the alt-char shortcuts.
When you click on the affected buttons (most but not all of the buttons are affected) the button highlight as expected, but when you then let go of the mouse button nothing happens.
My searches online for similar problems led me to the possibility that this upgrade triggered the issue, I have since confirmed it.
I tried "export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=true" before running eclipse, but it did not make a difference for me.
