That is the underlying problem then. gvfs resp. devicekit-disks simply  
uses the label that is set by udev. udev in turn should run the blkid  
prober from util-linux to get the label.
What does "blkid -o udev -p /dev/mapper/<device>" say, is  
ID_FS_LABEL(_ENC) set?
