Bug#551484: gnome-thumbnail-font: fails with "Took too much time to process"

The gnome-thumbnail-font application fails on every .ttf file with the
following error:

$ gnome-thumbnail-font
'/home/kai/Download/backups/kai/Libraries/fonts/aeolus.ttf' test.gif
gnome-thumbnail-font couldn't process file:
'/home/kai/Download/backups/kai/Libraries/fonts/aeolus.ttf'
Reason: Took too much time to process.

I do not think the process takes too long. If I start the command with
"time":
