Bug#544611: gnome-core: desktop is not updated with new shortcuts

I recently realised that adding a shortcut to the desktop, either via
right-clicking on a menu item and selecting "Add this launcher to desktop",
or even by simply dropping files onto the desktop, or into ~/Desktop, none
of these does update the appearance of the desktop.

A log-out and re-login is necessary to show these items. That is not
what is expected.

Please reassign as appropriate.
