3. Start X again
4. Try to start nautilus

RESULTS

Cannot start. The message reads:

       ... some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP
       networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a
       system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for
       information.

$ ps -ef | grep gconfd
<nothing>

PROBLEM

The error message is too vague.

The page http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ at section "I'm having a
lock file problem. What do I do?" does not offer practical steps how
to proceed. The message from nautilus should offer clear intructions
what to do.
