Bug#548055: libvte9: Doesn't display expected background color in terminal

Package: libvte9
Version: 1:0.22.0-1
Severity: serious
Since the upgrade of this morning, gnome-terminal and terminator
do not display correctly the wanted background color in mutt.
Strangely, once a character has been displayed at a given position, it
keeps the right background color until the next CTRL+L. I also saw similar
problems in aptitude.
I verified that downgrading to 1:0.20.5-1 makes the problem go away.
Attached is a screenshot so that you understand better what I mean.
Setting severity to serious to avoid testing propagation, it's only
annoying but really makes a bad user experience.
Cheers,
