As a tip for the next time and advertisement for my code: If you do not
want large autoreconf patches, you can use dh-autoreconf to run
autoreconf at build-time. 

This even works for things not autoreconf, you just need to pass the
name of the script such as ./autogen.sh to dh_autoreconf.

In this case though, being in freeze, the patch was probably the best
idea.
