Bug#555665: When opening the window: "Appearance Preferences", font size of the desktop are changed, without asking.

Hi Vincent,
I'm working on closing bugs for Debian/GNOME bug weekend.

You reported bug #555665 back in November 2009.

It appears that you were advised to disable the xrandr plugin in
gnome-settings-daemon, if you're going to configure dual-screen at the
command line.

Do you consider this bug to be resolved? Should this bug be closed?

Thanks in advance,
Mark Johnson

Package: gnome-control-center
Version: 1:2.22.2.1-2

When I open the window: "Appearance Preferences" from Gnome, by clicking
"System" -> "Preferences" -> "Appearance", size of all fonts
(applications, desktop, ...) is automatically changed.
The font size is increased while I did not ask.

I am using Debian 5.0.3 (Lenny). This version is installed since November
6, 2009.

Is gnome-settings-daemon started prior to this operation?

If you start gnome-settings-daemon by hand, does the same thing happen?

Same here with gnome-control-center 1:2.26.0-1

gnome-settings-daemon is set to be started at session start.

I analyzed more precisely this bug.

It is linked to activation of the dual screen of Xorg.
To activate dual screen I use "xrandr" with the following command :
xrandr --output VGA2 --right-of DVI0

When I open the window "Appearance Preferences" without having activated
the dual screen, the bug does not occur.

The bug only happens when I open the window "Appearance Preferences"
after activating the dual screen.

However, if I enable the dual screen, then I kill
"gnome-settings-daemon", then the system restarts
"gnome-settings-daemon" automatically. I can then access to the window
"Appearance Preferences" without bug.

For information I use the Xorg package version 1.7.3 20 and libxrandr2
version 2:1.2.3-1 (I use Lenny).

Why not use gnome-display-properties instead?

Well, configure the dual screen using the GNOME preferences and maybe it
will work.

If you want to do things by hand, you need to disable the xrandr plugin
in gnome-settings-daemon.

Cheers,

I can not use this program, because the version of
gnome-display-properties of Lenny does not allow to configure 2 screens
with differents displays and resolutions.
