I have a radeon video card indeed. According to lspci:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV250
[Mobility FireGL 9000] (rev 01)

According to /proc/version I just upgraded to:
Linux version 2.6.32-trunk-486 (Debian 2.6.32-5) (...) (gcc version
4.3.4 (Debian 4.3.4-6) )
And I also just updated my xorg drivers. But those updates didn't
resolve the issue.
I'll check if there is more that I can update and I will have a look
at the radeon video driver.
Thanks for helping me find the source of the problem.
Regards,
Peter
