Bug#586674: gnome-power-manager: since kernel 2.6.35-rc2 g-p-m does not suspend anymore, but freezes the computer

Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.30.1-1
Severity: important
See $subject.
Up to 2.6.35-rc1 suspending with g-p-m, i.e. closing the lid, or clicking
on the on-off icon and selecting suspend worked rock-stable.
Since 2.6.35-rc2 it freezes the computer about 60% of the time rock-solid,
too, not even sysrq is working.
BUT (and that is the important point!), a simple
echo mem > /sys/power/state
(as root) works like a breeze, wakes up in fact faster (at least that
is the feeling) and never stucked till now on newer kernels.
So, can g-p-m be fixed, or told to run only that echo thingy, or convinced
in some other way to use a working way?
Thanks
Norbert
