My first guess would be to relibtoolize. I can have a deeper look, but
not before next week.

It’s not a problem. Upstream doesn’t release often and this is how we
usually proceed. The upstream developer is kind enough to directly
forward relevant patches downstream.

Since this is a leaf package, we can remove it at any point before the
release if it turns out to be unsuitable for squeeze.
