Steps to reproduce the bug
--------------------------
1) install gdm
2) attempt to connect a new user (from system -> close session):
everything works fine
3) edit /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults and add a mistake, e.g.
/desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme ClearlooksX
4) call invoke-rc.d gdm3 reload
5) attempt to connect a new user (from system -> close session): no
options from /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults are applied
6) correct your /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults, e.g.
/desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme Clearlooks
7) call invoke-rc.d gdm3 reload
8) attempt to connect a new user (from system -> close session): no
options from /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults are applied
Expected result
---------------
At step 8, the configuration is reset to its initial and right value, so
the behaviour should be the same as in step 2.
In adition to that problem, it would be nice if the user were warned
when it introduces an error in the configuration, e.g. by something in
the logs (I saw no relevant message in /var/log/gdm3/)
Workaround
----------
When the configuration is fixed, running dpkg-reconfigure gdm3 make it
understand the options from /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults again
