gnome-vfs has a configure switch which allows to disable hal support.
libgnomevfs is (one of) the last package(s) in a default Debian GNOME
installation which still depends on libhal.

As soon as development of wheezy opens, we should drop hal support so we
can identify affected, legacy apps.
(Joss suggested to grep for gnome_vfs_volume_monitor in ELF binaries).
