Bug#599313: vertical left located gnome-panel freezes when too many applications are open at the same time

Th desktop is organized as follows:
1- on the left side of the sceen, two panels are open:
        - one for the commonly used applications,
        - the other one for the running applications.
2- when too many applications are open (arround 6-8) these two left located
gnome-panels freeze and become unreachable...
It is then impossible neither to get access to an already opened application
nor to open a new one.
3- when using conky to look after what's going on about the running processes,
it turns out that gnome-panel is using about 50% of the CPU resources.
4- the way to get out off this trap is then to hardly kill gnome-panel process.

attachment !
